Living In A Van: The Simple Life

There are three primary reasons I have lived in my van for the better part of the last two years: 1) I could care less what people think of me; 2) I like freedom; 3) you only live once (don’t the kids nowadays say that).

Gym memberships allows me to stay in shape and take showers (truck stops and their $10-$12 per shower services are utilized as well); internet via two hot spots allows me to work from where ever I want, and I can even hunt rabbits and squirrels, and go fishing whenever I want fresh meat.

It took about a year to get this van in good enough shape to confidently take it anywhere. New tires, fuel pump, sending unit, brakes (rotors and pads), radiator, water pump, transmission flush, and tune-up totaled about $1,500. The electrical system (inverter, batteries, generator, wires, box, and venting system) is another $2,000. The roof vent fan was pretty cheap as well (that is if you install it on your own). I learned how to do all this stuff as I went along…just as anyone can.

Living in the van can be lonely sometimes, and has its good and bad days. But this is my way of saying F*** the Federal Reserve, materialism, greed, and all the other evils that have destroyed this entire planet.

I normally live in Phoenix, but its hot as hell there in the summer and is probably the worst city in America to live if you’re a van dweller. This summer I will be driving all over the country seeing every state I’ve never seen and just experiencing life (barring any unforeseen opportunities or circumstances). I’ll keep everyone up-to-date on the daily happenings.
